Trivisa Puppy-BM - 2.62" SK5 Utility Blade, Black Micarta Handle

A utility knife is the most practical tool you can carry, but most of them look and feel like something from the bottom of a toolbox. The Puppy-BM gives the replaceable-blade format the same materials and build quality as a proper EDC folder.

The blade is SK5, a Japanese high-carbon steel that's the standard for professional utility blades. With high carbon content and a hard heat treatment, it takes an extremely fine, aggressive edge that's ideal for cardboard, tape, plastic strapping, carpet and packaging, which are the jobs that quickly dull a regular knife. Instead of sharpening, you just swap in a fresh blade and you're back to a factory edge in seconds. The Puppy-BM comes with six SK5 blades, so you're set for a long time. Because SK5 is a carbon steel rather than a stainless, it's worth wiping it dry after use in wet conditions. The blade is cheap and easy to replace, so it's a non-issue in practice.

The handle is black Micarta, made by layering fabric sheets in resin and curing them under heat and pressure. It grips securely even with dusty, wet or gloved hands, feels warm rather than slick, and develops a subtle patina over time. In black it's understated and professional, and you'd be just as comfortable using it on a worksite as you would at your desk.

The lock is a crossbar lock: a spring-loaded bar spanning the handle that engages the blade carrier. It's fully ambidextrous, holds the blade firmly under cutting pressure, and closes one-handed with your fingers well clear of the edge. Ceramic ball bearings make opening smooth, which isn't something you usually get on a utility knife.

At 3.6" closed and 61.1g, it carries like a small pocket knife but does the work of a box cutter. It's for tradies, warehouse and retail workers, or anyone who opens a lot of boxes and would rather not wreck a good knife doing it.
